Eyestone Elementary School, located in Wellington, Colorado was built in 1973. At the time of construction, Wellington’s 1970 census reported a population of 691 and Eyestone was its sole elementary school.
The first remodel happened in 1989 and the town’s population had nearly doubled to 1,340, in 2018 it had reached 9,994 – a tremendous growth that continues today.
A new chapter is coming to Eyestone's history. In the fall of 2022 a combined middle-high school opened on the northwest outskirts of Wellington. (Wellington Middle-High information.) This move is going to offer potential growth of Eyestone into the former Wellington Middle School building which is located immediately south. Plans are being considered for Eyestone to become a 2-building campus, with pre-Kindergarten through Second grade remaining in the existing location and Third through Fifth grade expanding in the "south campus".
Beginning August 2022, Eyestone will be home to all PSD Early Childhood programs in Wellington. The two early childhood classrooms previously housed at Rice Elementary are moving to Eyestone to provide additional classroom space for Rice's growing neighborhood. Administrators from both Eyestone and Rice are working closely with District representatives to expand and improve school capacity for Wellington's population. Stay tuned for exciting updates as our Eyestone family grows!
Located just 10 miles north of Fort Collins and 33 miles south of Cheyenne, Wyoming, families find it a convenient location for commuting as well as a peaceful rural environment.
Eyestone is named in honor of former teacher, Principal, Superintendent and past Mayor of Wellington, Robert E. Eyestone.
