Hello and welcome to 5th grade!! I am so happy to begin my 2nd year at Eyestone. Last year I taught Special Education and supported 4th and 5th grades. This is my 9th year teaching full-time, and my first year teaching 5th grade in the general education setting. We have departmentalized this year and I will be teaching English/Language Arts. My passion is reading and helping students learn to read and to comprehend what they have read so that they may become life-long readers. I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University with an emphasis in Special Education and my Masters degree in Special Education from Emporia State University.
My family includes my husband, daughter and son. We enjoy the outdoors by going hiking, swimming, riding bikes and playing in the sandbox. We are so happy to have made the move to Colorado and are loving every minute of it. Prior to moving to Wellington we lived in Wichita, Kansas where I taught for 7 years (6 years in Special Education, 1 year in 3rd grade).
This year in 5th grade we will celebrate birthdays during our homeroom read-aloud time after lunch. On Mondays, we will have double specials and no morning recess, due to shortened blocks 1 and 2. Students' homework is to read 20-minutes five days a week with a parent signature in the planners brought home nightly. Please look for designated folders coming home on Thursdays which will have documents that may need to be checked by adult family members and then returned to school.
